Board & Train
Board & Train is a uniquely effective program that makes the most of our training facility and dynamic team of dog trainers. Your dog stays at Das Hund Haus and enjoys all the amenities of our overnight dog boarding while receiving one-on-one training each day. The frequent, consecutive training sessions in an immersive environment lead to quick absorption and excellent retention of skills. Each day of your pet’s program balances play, interaction, rest, and training for an impactful learning experience. It includes:
- All the comforts of home including private accommodations, soft bedding, meals, and treats
- Daily enrichment and exercise, either in group or one-on-one with a caregiver
- Multiple focused training sessions each day according to your pet’s customized plan
- Regular updates and feedback from our dog trainers
- Departure lessons to demonstrate what your pet has learned and how to maintain their skills at home
- Take-home resources and practice exercises
- Post-program support from our dog trainers via phone or email
Day Training
Day training at Das Hund Haus is like day school for your furkids—a fun mix of learning and “recess” while you’re at work or running errands. Your pup enjoys all the exercise, socialization, and enrichment of our doggie daycare, with personalized training lessons between playtimes. Day training is especially useful for manners and obedience training, but a plan for specialized training can be developed upon request.
Private Training Lessons
Private dog training lessons are a great option for pet parents who want to be closely involved with their pet’s training. You and your pet will meet with one of our expert dog trainers and tackle your goals in a focused, one-on-one setting. We’ll show you how to work alongside your dog to produce the results you want, whether it’s basic obedience training or a specific behavior/challenge. Private dog training lessons can be done at our facility or in your own home.
Puppy Training
The earlier your puppy begins familiarizing with the sights, sounds, and activities of the human world, the more successful their training journey will be. We provide specialized puppy training in Lakeland to establish essential skills, manners, and socialization for your puppy’s best life. Any of our programs can be adapted for puppies, so please reach out to us to discuss your schedule, needs, and goals.
Group Training Classes
Das Hund Haus offers a variety of group dog training classes to build and expand upon your pet’s skills. You and your pup will get to learn in a “classroom”-style setting alongside other pet parents, all working toward success under direction of a skilled dog trainer. Curriculums are targeted, but each attendee will get personal instruction and guidance to help you meet objectives. Some of our dog training classes in Lakeland include:
- Training Foundations: This puppy training class teaches your young pup core skills to help them be a well-adjusted, mild-mannered family member. Includes the importance of crate training, impulse control, how to build engagement, polite interactions with strangers, confidence building, and more. Doesn’t include obedience cues, but makes a great first step in your puppy’s fundamental training.
- Manners 101: Learn how to teach your dog skills like sit, down, come, and stay as well as walking nicely on a leash.
- Manners 102: Reinforce skills learned in Manners 101 and expand upon them with new skills like standing on command, walking backwards, and putting their paws on objects.
- AKC Canine Good Citizen: You and your pup will learn everything you need to pass the AKC Canine Good Citizen exam. You’ll practice walking next to other dogs, ignoring distractions, and meeting strangers. Testing is optional.
- Manners in the City: We’ll go out to parks, lakes, and stores to make sure your pup is confident and responsive while out and about in public. We’ll also reinforce skills such as recalls with distractions, stays, and walking past people or dogs.
- Service Dog Training: Our service dog trainers help your dog do the tasks you need and turn you into the best team you can be. Please call for details and registration requirements.
- Conformation: You and your show dog learn together how to get the most out of your presentation before the judge. Regardless of your pet’s breed, we’ll help them develop the skills needed for showing while building the confidence, grace, and poise you need to shine in the show ring.
- Intro to Rally Signs: Rally is a fun obedience sport that lets you have fun with your dog while following a course of signs. In this class, you’ll learn the different signs used and skills needed for basic rally while enjoying a new activity with your dog.
- Rally Course Practice: Rally encourages lots of positive interaction and praise for your dog. Moving together, you and your dog will navigate the course layouts while building useful obedience skills. All done in a fun, social atmosphere! This class will teach the skills needed for the AKC, UKC, and ASCA rally titles.
- Tricks Class: In this class, your dog will learn a broad spectrum of tricks, from helping out around the house to favorite party tricks. Perfect for any pet parent who wants a closer connection with their dog while having lots of fun.
- Intro to Nose Work: As more of a mental than physical activity, nose work teaches your dog to recognize different scents such as basil, anise, and clove, and how to alert to them. It’s a fun, slower-paced game that provides mental engagement and cognitive exercise for your pup.

Jill Wallace
Jill Wallace, DHH owner, graduated from Florida Southern College with a BS in Biology. Her longtime love of animals drove her to study their behavior. She began training dogs over 20 years ago. She has taken lessons from multiple trainers in the area.

Sherri Mathewson
Sherri Mathewson has been training dogs since about 2001. She has trained in Rally, Obedience, Earth Dog, and Nosework.
Dog Training FAQ
What vaccinations are required for training?
We require proof of vaccination for rabies, distemper/parvo (DHPP), and Bordetella. Puppies should have at least their second set of puppy vaccinations, including Bordetella, to register for puppy training.
How do I get started?
We encourage pet parents to take advantage of our free dog training evaluation to get started. This is a personal meeting with you, your dog, and one of our dog trainers to discuss your needs and goals. What can you teach my dog?
Many of our programs are designed to help your dog excel in obedience training, household manners, and better overall behavior. However, we’re also experienced in specialized training, including behavioral modification, service dog training, and some canine sports, among others. Is my dog too old to benefit from dog training?
No, dogs of all ages can benefit from professional dog training at Das Hund Haus. Older dogs may require extra consistency and patience, but we’ve helped dogs of all ages meet their full potential.
Can you work on my dog’s social skills?
Many of our programs come with a socialization element built in, but we can also provide targeted socialization training. Please call us to discuss your needs.
Who will be training my dog?
Das Hund Haus has a full staff of experienced and knowledgeable dog trainers, each with their own specializations and areas of interest. Depending on your pet’s program and training objectives, you may work with a specific trainer or with several members of our team. At your free training evaluation, we’ll identify which of our trainers are best to guide you and your pet to lasting success.
Do you work with all breeds?
Yes, we train dogs of every breed at Das Hund Haus. Our team of experts works with your pet’s genetics and history to find a training solution ideal for their instincts, natural drive, and personality.
Can you work with aggressive/fearful dogs?
We have incredible success helping many dogs with fear, anxiety, and aggression/reactivity. While we specialize in helping aggressive/fearful dogs, we may not be able to help with every case of aggression. We encourage you to call to discuss your options with us.
